Bates, Brahms, and Saariaho at the Harris Theater

Join us on February 23 for the New Millennium Orchestra’s full orchestra debut at the Harris theater! This unbelievable program will feature Claire Chase of ICE performing Saariaho’s sensual, elemental concerto for flute and orchestra, Aile du Songe – literally “Wing of the Dream.” A Concert Artists Guild competition winner and a trailblazer in the new music world, Ms. Chase has been lauded worldwide as a spellbinding performer of frightening virtuosity and poise. The program will launch with the Midwest Premiere of Mason Bates’ Mothership, an electro-acoustic tour de force in which the orchestra transforms into a thrumming center of energy, “docked” into by a series of soloists. Mason Bates is currently the Composer-in-Residence for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The second half of the program will close with the NMO’s rendition of Brahms’ unforgettable Symphony no. 4.
